Dog Days of Summer

Photography While On Vacation

Dogs

So, first off, this happens every summer, that we have care of two large dogs. So much for dawn photography, and for much other photography, and I wouldn't have it any other way. We have come to love these animals. I drove 3,300 km with them in a pickup truck: loved it. One of them has majesty, the other likes to cuddle: the best of both worlds.

Also, have I mentioned Venice (Italy)? Charming backstory: my adult child said to me, "Dad, we're going on vacation to Italy and have an extra bed in our cabin". I told them that they had all had a busy winter, needed time to themselves, but thank you very much. Child: "Dad! I'm asking you to come with us to Venice!"

I went to Venice. It was pretty awful, actually, spending all day with people I love, swimming every day in the Adriatic, eating out at authentic Italian restaurants, baking under the Mediterranean sun every afternoon at the pool complex (not right in Venice!), then having gelato ... quite a stifling routine.

I have been again to northern Manitoba. It has something to do with the dogs. I'm going to call the beauty there austere, and it has taken a while to seep into my bones. (It all has to do with with the complexities of how we see with our brains, not just our eyes.)

While there, another adult child and I photographed a high-school graduation — highly satisfying, and let me just tell you that there is certainly hope for the next generation. Photos mainly private.

The Manitoba wilderness also produces things like the locals' homage to Boots Creek.

Brockville Drivers is running well, and this year we have had seven drives since early May. Check it out.

My Portraiture project continues.

I am loving it, and by all reports, the clients/models love it. We have lots of fun doing it, and enjoy the art-portraits which we produce.

From hundreds of excellent portraits, it's hard to pull out just two recent ones to illustrate what we can do together. Just know that I have much more variety than these.

Important points:

  1. free (for the time being);
  2. completely private — anything you see posted is with explicit permission;
  3. my next model is you. If you aren't sure whether you want to, then ... I'm sure.

Currently displaying art photography in galleries, these are for sale (and many others elsewhere). Dawn Rain is at the O'Connor Gallery in Gananoque, and Moon Setting over Barn will soon be at the Moon Watchers show at the Melt near Picton (thanks to Marielle, who is currently showing there, for alerting me to this show).

So, apparently I still have a little more more going on in my life than dogs.

I would love it if you were to subscribe to this blog, and to refer friends; art collectors may find this interesting.

You may wish to look through my larger portfolio. Almost everything is for sale. I favour large wall art, and also deal in books and other small items: prints, notecards, and postcards.
